Crawley Borough Council declared a housing crisis in February 2024. As a result, it means that the wait time for social rented housing in the Crawley is longer than it has ever been with many people waiting several years and in some cases much longer to be housed. The demand far outstrips the number of council homes becoming available, with the supply being the lowest it has even been in the borough and as a result, some applicants who join the housing register may never be housed.
